Thiruvananthapuram: �Raamaanam,� directed by M.P. Sukumaran Nair, has been selected for the 12th John Abraham Award for the best film of 2009.
The award, instituted by the Federation of Film Societies of India � Keralam, consists of a cash prize of Rs.30,000, a statuette and citation.
�Bhramaram,� directed by Blessy, won a special mention by the jury comprising Sunny Joseph as chairman and C.V. Balakrishnan and M.G. Sasi as members.
Anwar Rasheed, director of �Bridge,� one of the films included in the anthology titled �Kerala Caf�; Sashi Kumar who acted in �Loudspeaker� and Indrans (�Raamaanam�) also won special mention.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Joseph said �Raamaanam� was adjudged the best film for its effective portrayal of social realities through the life of an honest artiste.
The preliminary selection was conducted by an opinion poll among societies affiliated to the federation
