Haj training camp begins at Pookkottur

MALAPPURAM: A two-day Haj training camp, organised by the people of Pookkottur, began on the Khilafat campus, Pookkottur, near here on Saturday.

Union Minister of State for Railways E. Ahamed inaugurated the camp. Indian Union Muslim League State president Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal presided over the function and led the prayers.

Hundreds of pilgrims from different parts of the State are attending the camp.

Islamic scholar and Haj Committee member Abdussamad Pookkottur led the class, explaining the entire process of the pilgrimage with the help of a miniature replica of the Kaba.

The Pookkottur Haj camp has grown to be the largest in the State. The organisers claimed it was the largest in the country.

Hajis from distant places are being accommodated in nearby houses. Families at Pookkottur have come forward to host the pilgrims
