DYFI to stage Parliament march for higher foodgrain quota

KANNUR: Pro-CPI (M) DYFI would stage a march to Parliament on May 3 seeking to press the Centre for a higher foodgrain quota to Kerala, its State unit Secretary T V Rajesh said Friday.

The protest would be inaugurated by CPI-M politburo member Sitaram Yechuri, Rajesh told reporters here.

The Centre continued to slash the rice quota even during the Onam and Vishu festivals despite Prime Minister Manmohan Singh giving assurance of increased foodgrain allocation due to the State, Rajesh alleged.

As part of safeguarding the environment, the DYFI has decided to plant 10 sapplings each by its 25,000 units across Kerala during June, he said
