Lt General Chengappa calls on Achuthanandan

TPURAM: Lt General B K Chengappa, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka, called on Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan here Friday.

Lt. Gen Chengappa held wide-ranging discussions with the Chief Minister on the prevailing security scenario in the region and issues related to welfare of ex-servicemen.

He discussed the various aspects of coastal security in the state. The General assured the Chief Minister of spontaneous assistance of the Army whenever required.

He also took up with the Chief Minister issues relating to allotment of land in various districts for ex-servicemen health scheme, employment opportunities for retired soldiers and reservation for wards of serving and retired soldiers in professional colleges.

He visited various military installations in the state on his maiden visit after assuming charge as GOC of the region.

He also had a meeting with Uthradam Thirunal Marthanda Varma, the erstwhile Maharaja of Travancore
