Boys hog the limelight in entrance exams

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Boys have cornered most of the top ranks in the State engineering and medical entrance examinations this year.

Of the top 100 ranks in the engineering stream, 91 have been won by boys. In the medicine stream, they number 58. All the top five rank-holders in the engineering stream are boys. All the top four rank-holders from among the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the engineering stream are boys. In the medicine stream, all but the second rank have been won by boys. So also the top two medicine stream ranks from among the SC/ST candidates. While boys and girls have fared almost equally in the rankings for the engineering stream with 39,710 boys and 37,743 girls making the grade, in the medicine stream, girls have far outshone boys with 40,972 of them getting into the rank list as against 20,068 boys. Among the districts, Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Kozhikode have shared most of the top 100 ranks in the engineering stream almost equally, bagging 20, 18 and 17 ranks respectively. In the medicine stream, most of the top 100 ranks have been shared almost similarly by Kozhikode (14), Kollam (13) and Thrissur (12).
