Mudranamikavu awards announced

KOTTAYAM: The Mudranamikavu 2009 awards for excellence in book production, instituted by the Department of Printing and Publishing of Mahatma Gandhi University, have been announced. Separate awards have been instituted for excellence in printing, book design, cover design and reference.

A statement said DC Books, Kottayam, bagged the award for printing and production for �Pravasam, a novel by M. Mukundan. The Kerala Sasthra Sahitya Parishad, Thrissur, won the award for the best book design for �Pusthaka Poomazha, a kit of 20 childrens books.

The State Institute of Encyclopaedic Publication, Thiruvananthapuram, bagged the award for the best reference book for �Sarvavijnanakosham 14th volume. Zainul Abid of Kannur won the best cover design award for the book �Ormachaya by photographer Punalur Rajan.

Special jury awards were bagged by SPCS, Kottayam (M.P. Paul: �Kalapathinte Thiru Seshippukal) and Mathrubhumi Books, Kozhikode (�Veekshana Vishesham) in the general category and Islamic Publishing House, Kozhikode (�Islamic Encyclopaedia Vol.9) in the reference category.
