Monsoon to hit coastal Karnataka and Kerala by June 5

Bangalore: Monsoon may remain subdued over Kerala and Karnataka coast for next 24 hours, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

Indias Southwest monsoon has further advanced into most parts of northeastern states and some parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Reports also suggest that the monsoon will head towards Karnataka by June 5, but there might be some delay in its progress due to the severe cyclone Phet in the Arabian Sea.

Monsoon may remain subdued over Kerala and Karnataka coast for next one day, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

On the severe cyclonic storm �Phet, the weather office said that it moved west-northwestwards and was about 1400 km away from Mumbai and 1100 km southwest of Naliya (Kutch, Gujarat).

The storm over westcentral Arabian Sea is likely to weaken and move slowly in a northwesterly/northerly direction and cross Oman coast, the IMD said. It will then recurve northeastwards towards the Pakistan coast, it added.

The western disturbance would affect northwest India during the next 4-5 days, the IMD said.
