KOLLAM: K. Radhakrishnan, Speaker of the Assembly, has said that along with implementation of drinking water schemes, elaborate measures have to be taken to protect water bodies.
Inaugurating the Oachira drinking water project at Oachira, near here, on Friday, Mr. Radhakrishnan said protection of water bodies had been taken up as a major scheme around the world. Water bodies should be protected right from the forests to the coastal areas.
The Kerala Water Authority should take up not only the supply of water but also the protection of water bodies. Efforts should be made to commission all drinking water projects in a time-bound manner.
Presiding over the function, Minister for Water Resources N.K. Premachandran said the Rs.38-crore scheme had the capacity to purify 150 lakh litres of water a day.
