Planting of saplings, marathon to mark Environment Day

KOCHI: The Kerala State legal Services Authority, in association with the Lawyers Environmental Awareness Forum and the Kerala High Court Advocates Association, will plant saplings on Saturday as part of World Environmental Day celebrations.

C.N. Ramachandran Nair, judge of the High Court of Kerala, will inaugurate the celebrations at the Kerala High Court Advocates Association Hall at 10 a.m. K.P. Ouseph, Chief Conservator of Forests and Custodian of Ecologically Fragile Land, will speak on Kerala Forest Policy and the problems in its implementation. Legy Abraham, secretary of the Forum, will preside.

The Kerala Catholic Youth Movement (KCYM), the youth movement of the Ernakulam-Angamaly archdiocese will organise a variety of awareness programmes in connection with World Environment Day.

The programme will start off with a mini marathon from the Rajendra Maidan. Deputy Police Commissioner P.H. Ashraf will flag off the marathon at 10 a.m. It will end at St. Marys Basilica. This will be followed by an environment friendly gathering, �My Earth, to be attended by various cultural and social leaders
