KALPETTA: A joint committee under the Union Ministries of Tribal Affairs and Environment and Forests has expressed satisfaction over the progress in the implementation of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act in Wayand district.
The district administration has set a model for other States to emulate, committee members C.K. Sreedharan, Ravirappa Pragada and Rajeshkumar Dogra said on Saturday after they visited tribal colonies like Madoortheikkil, Panchami, Cheeyambam, Kalankandy, Ponkuzhy, etc.
During their visit to the Madoortheikkil colony, the team scrutinised as many as 53 land records.
The district administration had built as many as 35 houses in that colony at a cost of Rs.1.25 each. Livestock had also been provided to all households.
District Collector T. Bhaskaran; Forest Right Committee Deputy Director Vasanthakumaran Nair and Tribal Resettlement Development Mission Officer Prasad accompanied the panel.
The panel will hold a sitting at the Collectorate conference hall at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Mr.Bhaskaran said.
