Sand from Malampuzha dam to be made available

Kozhikode: District Collector P.B. Salim has said that sand from Malampuzha dam will be brought to the district in view of the shortage of the material for implementing the EMS Housing Scheme and the Indira Awas Yojana, envisaged for people belonging to economically-backward communities.

The acute shortage of sand had prolonged the construction of houses in many civic bodies in the district. Construction was in progress at 5,400 of the total 27,000 houses, Dr. Salim said at a review meting of the EMS Housing Scheme at the Collectorate conference hall here.

He said the sand would be made available to 78 grama panchayats, two municipalities (Koyilandy and Vadakara) and the city Corporation. Steps had been taken to transport the sand required for the construction of 100 houses in each local body, Dr. Salim said.
