Central team assesses epidemic situation

Thiruvananthapuram: The three-member team from the Centre, here to conduct a detailed epidemiological investigation into the H1N1 epidemic in the State and the possible changes in virus behaviour in the wake of the monsoon, visited major government and private hospitals and the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology on Wednesday.

National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Joint Director Sunil Gupta, NCDC epidemiologist Pradeep Khasnobis and B.V. Tandale, from the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, had detailed discussions with Health Department officials, including Health Secretary Manoj Joshi, Director of Health Services M.K. Jeevan and State H1N1 Nodal Officer Amar Fettle.

�They will focus on the H1N1 spell in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam, from where the maximum number of cases and deaths have been reported. We have made all case sheets of patients and deaths records available to them.
