NTPC to adopt Arattupuzha

ALAPPUZHA: The National Thermal Power Corporations Rajiv Gandhi Combined Cycle Power Project at Kayamkulam will adopt the tsunami-hit village of Arattupuzha, according to K.C. Venugopal, MP.

In a release, Mr. Venugopal said Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde had informed him of the decision, which was taken after Mr. Venugopal submitted a petition requesting NTPC to take over the village, which was hit by the tsunami in December 2004, and to help development there as part of the Corporations social commitment programmes.

Basic infrastructure development, drinking water supply, rural health and sanitation, education, improvement of technical capabilities of the villagers and so on will be the focus of the projects to be designed by NTPC for Arattupuzha, Mr. Shinde told Mr. Venugopal.
