Kochi: The High Court on Friday directed the police not to submit the final report in the case relating to the custodial death of a murder accused in Palakkad.
Justice V. Ram Kumar reserved orders on the petition filed by Murukesh, brother of the victim Sampath, seeking to hand over the investigation of the case to CBI. The State government opposed the appeal and claimed to have investigated the case in an effective manner.
The police informed the High Court that 14 accused, including a Dy.SP and Circle Inspector, had been suspended from service. Departmental action has been initiated against them. Investigation confirmed that Sampaths death was due to custodial torture, the court was told.
