A film festival that focussed on art, literature

MALAPPURAM: The 71st International Film Festival of Malappuram (IFFM) came to an end here on Sunday night with the screening of Nick Broomfields Battle for Haditha. Nineteen films of international repute were screened during the three-day festival.

Addressing the valedictory function held in the courtyard of the Naveen Theatre here on Sunday evening, Kerala State Chalachitra Academy Chairman K.R. Mohanan and filmmaker Madhu Kaithapram called upon the people to delve deep into the stark realities of human life.

Mr. Mohanan said that promotion of films with good stories was the best way to ensure propagation of good films in any language. He hinted that the film viewers too had a serious responsibility in the promotion of good films. Mr. Kaithapram said that those living in a fanciful world would not be able to fathom the depths of the realities depicted in some films.
