Special school awards presented

KOCHI: The contribution of special schools to society needs to be acknowledged as they provide support to the families which seriously need it, said Leader of Opposition Oommen Chandy, after inaugurating the award presentation function organised by the All-Kerala Special Schools Association and Special Olympics Kerala here on Tuesday.



Mr. Chandy gave away the Best Special School Awards to Rahmaniya School for Mentally Handicapped, Kozhikode; Reach-Swasraya Special Child Development and Vocational Training Centre for Handicapped, Kuttur, Thrissur and Assisi Special School, Vellayanmkudy, Kattappana, Idukki.



All the three schools were identified for awards from three zones in the State on the basis of their overall performance in providing care and rehabilitation services for special children. The parameters include vocational training, achievements in co-curricular activities, sports, participation in special school festivals, teachers� qualification and dedication and rehabilitation activity to make children self-sufficient to the extent possible.



Awards were also given to three Best Special School Teachers.
