Mobile supermarket for coastal area soon

ALAPPUZHA: After the success of its floating supermarket in Alappuzha, the Consumerfed is all set to launch another mobile Triveni supermarket exclusively for the coastal region. The coastal supermarket is expected to hit the roads some time in April, and will move along the coastal highway and the side-roads that lead to the fishing villages on the Alappuzha coast, offering about 2,000 essential goods that will be sold at lower rates than in the market.

Consumerfed managing director Rigi G. Nair told The Hindu that the coastal supermarket would be the sixth mobile venture, including the floating Triveni. Already, a mobile Triveni was moving around the urban areas of Kollam district, while three mobile supermarkets, meant exclusively for the high ranges and hilly terrains, were catering to the needs of people in Idukki, Kasaragod and Wayanad districts, he said.

Encouraged by the success of the floating Triveni and the versions running on land, the Consumerfed were planning more such ventures, Mr. Nair said. He said the floating Triveni, which had 55 stops in seven panchayats of Kuttanad region, was recording sales of Rs.50,000 to Rs.60,000 a day.
