Admission: student held on charge of tampering

Thiruvananthapuram: The police on Wednesday arrested a 22-year-old engineering college student on the charge of tampering with the engineering entrance allocation process in 2008.

The suspect was identified as Rinu. P. Babu of Idukki district. The case came to light when a student, Geethu Thomas, complained to Director-General of Police Jacob Punnoose that she had got admission to an engineering college that she had not opted for.

Ms. Geethu was ranked 1,757 in the 2008 Engineering Entrance Examination. She alleged that somebody had changed her option online. On the basis of her complaint, the city police registered a case (391/2008 Thampanoor police station crime) of cheating under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code read with violation of Section 66 of the Information Technology Act 2000.
