Council approves City Development Plan

Kozhikode: A special meeting of the city corporation council on Thursday approved the City Development Plan (CDP) for Kozhikode Urban Area prepared by Kochi-based EMB Planners and Designers for securing funds for development activities in the city.

The consultancy firm comprising Elizabeth Philips, Mary P. Mathews and K. Beena, all retired government town planners, had prepared the CDP for obtaining funds under the second phase of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme.

Since the Centre has decided to put funding for projects in the second phase of JNNURM on hold, the corporation will now seek funds under a scheme of the government of France. The French government had offered to support four cities in the country to improve urban infrastructure provided these cities had some historical connection with France, Deputy Mayor P.T. Abdul Latheef said
