Minister to lay stone for marine park

Kozhikode: Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac will lay the foundation stone for the Beypore marine park of the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra) at a function at Kalladithode on June 1, it was announced here on Thursday.

Industries Minister Elamaram Karim will preside.

The marine park will be developed in about 25 acres near the Beypore harbour. It will have seafood pre-processing units, value-added production centre for marine products, facilities to repair fishing boats, a data and communication centre and a creche.

The estimated cost of developing infrastructure for the park is Rs.10 crore. Funds will be available from the Union governments Assistance to State for Developing Export Infrastructure and other Allied Activities (Aside).

The seafood processing units will be managed by fish peeling workers of the area and is expected to end the unhygienic conditions prevailing in processing units. It is proposed to set up two peeling units, each having 150 workers
