Proposals for development of coastal belt sought

ALAPPUZHA: Fisheries Minister S. Sarma has called upon public representatives and officials to submit proposals for development of the coastal belt of the district, which would in turn be implemented with Rs.5 crore that had been set apart in the budget for the States coastal development initiatives.

Addressing a meeting held at the collectorate here on Friday, Mr. Sarma said the district would have projects implemented in 30 coastal villages spread over seven Assembly constituencies, with each constituency to have projects worth Rs.75 lakh. Public representatives and officials would have to shortlist projects and submit them to the steering committee headed by the District Collector by June 15, after which the committee would have to approve the same and submit the lists to the State government through the State Coastal Development Corporation by June 25.
