KOTTAYAM: The first Malayalam playback singer and the actress who acted in the first Malayalam talkie Balan, M K Kamalam (86) died Tuesday evening here at Kottayam Medical College.
She had been under treatment for the last two weeks and also got her leg fractured after she fell from her cot.
Having become a theater artist at a tender age of 10, Kamalam entered the Malayalam film industry when she was 14 through the first Malayalam Talkie Balan (1938) directed by Shewakram Nottani, popularly known as S. Nottani.
She also acted in films Bhootharayar and Shayanam.
