Hyderabad, May 16: The AP Transco has requested the ministry of power to allot electricity from the power plants at Kayamkulam in Kerala and Nyveli and Vellore in Tamil Nadu.
In a letter to the union power minister, Mr Susheel Kumar Shinde, Transco has requested for provision of at least 100 MW power from the Nyveli plant, as the state is reeling under severe power shortage.
It has appealed to the minister to allow it to review its earlier decision not to take power from the Kayamkulam power project in Kerala. The state refused to draw power from both these plants though the NTPC had offered some share from the Kayamkulam plant.
The 1000 MW Nyveli plant also offered power to the AP Transco when it started production in 2004, but the State has refused the offer. Now with more than 20 million units shortage everyday, it has become a Herculean task to maintain supply during peak time. Any additional supply from southern grid would be of great help, said a senior official in the energy department.
