Thiruvananthapuram: The Karamana-Kaliyikkavila National Highway Action Council has hailed the government decision to allocate Rs.100 crore for road development.
A meeting of the action council held here recently urged the government to widen the highway stretch immediately in view of the heavy traffic congestion and increasing number of accidents. The amount was sanctioned for land acquisition along a 10-km stretch on both sides of the road from the Karamana bridge. The Department of Public Works had submitted a Rs.650-crore project to widen the highway into a 30.2-metre wide four-lane road. The Rs.100 crore sanctioned by the government is the first instalment to be spent on the project.
Action council president A.S. Mohankumar presided.
