Nedumbassery: Jagadguru Sankaracharya Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji, chief of the Sringeri Math, on Sunday will perform the Kumbhabhishekam ceremonies of Goddess Sharadamba and Sri Adi Sankara temples in Kalady, the birth place of Adi Sankara.
Arrangements are in full swing for the ceremony on Sunday and the area has been spruced up to accommodate the large number of devotees expected to take part in the event.
The construction of a temple tower (gopuram) on the western side of the Sree Adi Sankara Janmabhoomi temple has also been completed.
On Friday, a group of 20 Vedic scholars led by Seetharama Bhatta Sashthri, in the presence of the Jagadguru, launched the preparatory ceremonies for the mega event - held every 12 years.
The proceedings began at 7.30 a.m. with the rites of Sthalashudhi, Dravyashudhi and Atmashudhi.
