Thiruvananthapuram: District judge K. Ramakrishnan has denied bail to gang leader Om Prakash who is facing trial in at least two murder cases and is at present under detention at the Central Prison, Poojappura, as per the provisions of the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAPA).
Om Prakash is facing trial primarily on the charge of plotting the gangland murder of the Kazhakkuttom-based gangster Aprani Krishnakumar in 2007. He is also wanted on the charge of destroying evidence in the Paul Muthoot George murder case in 2009.
Om Prakashs counsel argued that the accused was implicated in the murder case on the basis of some alleged mobile calls and all the other accused in the case, except his client, had been released on bail. Om Prakashs custody was not required as the investigation in the case was over.
Public prosecutor Kulathoor S.V. Premkumaran Nair opposed the plea stating that the trial in the case was yet to commence and Om Prakash would threaten witnesses if released on bail.
