Unit facing pollution charge attacked

Thrissur: Two persons, on Sunday, attacked the security wing of the Nitta Gelatin India Limited (NGIL) at Kathikudam, an ossein-producing company that has been facing allegations of environmental pollution.

According to T. Vijayakrishnan, assistant general manager of the company, the attackers arrived on a motorcycle around 1 a.m., attacked the security office with iron bars and smashed windowpanes before speeding away.

�They left behind a few posters which carried slogans like �Move over NGIL, �Maoist Zindabad, Maoist Kerala Unit and �Clean Up Kathikudam. One attacker wore a helmet and the other covered his face with cloth, Mr. Vijayakrishnan said. The police examined the place.
