One found murdered in waiting shed

KOCHI: Thankappan, 49, of Varappuzha was found murdered, with his head smashed with a boulder, in a waiting shed along the National Highway at Chirakkakam on Friday morning.

The police said that he used to work as goldsmith, but of late he had been roaming around showing signs of mental instability. He never used to stay in one place and the waiting shed was where he used to sleep at night.

Security personnel in the nearby region had seen him alive till 12.20 a.m. and the murder was committed after that using a boulder which was found nearby. The body was taken to the Alappuzha medical college for a post-mortem examination.

B. Sandhya, Inspector General, Ernakulam Range; and T. Vikram, Superintendent of Police, Ernakulam Rural, visited the scene of the crime. Senior police officials said that the investigation is on around those who were involved in similar crimes committed in the district recently.
