Panel to monitor capital road development

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A high-level committee headed by Law Minister M. Vijayakumar and District Collector Sanjay Kaul has been formed to review and monitor the progress of road development works in the capital.

The decision to form the committee comprising V. Sivankutty and V .Surendran Pillai, MLAs; Mayor C. Jayan Babu; Trida chairman Ajayakumar; and heads of various departments was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan here on Wednesday.

Mr. Vijayakumar told reporters that the committee would meet on Wednesdays to review the progress of the works. The next meeting will be held at 2 p.m. on June 9. The meeting decided to temporarily rehabilitate 54 traders at Thakaraparambu for constructing a flyover. He said necessary steps would be taken to solve the legal issues with the promoters of Big Bazaar. The flyover at Bakery Junction will be opened to traffic next month.
