VS remark unfortunate, says Chandy

Thiruvananthapuram: Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy on Thursday termed as unfortunate Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandans statement accusing the Congress of encouraging Christian and Muslim communal politics.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Chandy alleged that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) had unfailingly played up communal politics on the eve of every election. He said the party had shared platform with PDP leader Abdul Nasir Maudany in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

The party also got the backing of the Jamaat-e-Islami in 18 Lok Sabha constituencies. The attempts to divide society on communal lines for the sake of votes would seriously harm future generations, he said.

He said the Chief Minister had failed to respond to some pertinent issues he had raised during a meet the press programme organised by the Kesari Journalists Trust on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the LDF government
