Bhopal case retrial sought

Kozhikode: Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) president P. Sreeramakrishnan has demanded that the Centre order a retrial in the Bhopal gas tragedy case of December 1984.

Mr. Sreeramakrishnan said here on Tuesday that the delayed verdict revealed the conspiracy hatched by the successive Congress governments at the Centre. The culprits were sentenced to only two years of imprisonment in an incident that killed thousands of people following the leakage of poisonous gas from Union Carbide India Limited.

The DYFI would organise a nation-wide protest on June 10 against the verdict and campaign for reopening the trial.
