Relief for unwed tribal mothers

KALPETTA: Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy will launch the Sneha Sparsham Project at Mananthavady on Thursday.

Under this Social Welfare Department project, a monthly aid of Rs.300 will be given to unwed tribal mothers in the State. The project is being implemented as per a study report of the State Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Commission.

In the first phase, 226 unwed tribal mothers in Wayanad district will get the benefit of the scheme. In Thirunelly panchayat, which has the highest number of tribal unwed mothers in the State, 76 women will get the aid.

According to a press release, the project will be implemented through the Social Security Mission.
