79 doctors get show-cause notices

Thiruvananthapuram: The government has issued show- cause notices to 79 doctors who reportedly did not report for duty under the Compulsory Rural Service (CRS) posting.

As per the law, students who complete MBBS course from the Government Medical Colleges in the State are liable to do one years compulsory service in rural health care centres in the State. The doctors who did not report for their CRS duty and issued show-cause notices have been directed to report for duty before the District Medical Officer (Health) of the respective district within five days of the publication of the notice.

In case the doctors do not report for duty, the government will initiate legal action as specified in the bond, to realise an amount of Rs.5 lakh from each candidate and their sureties, along with the whole amount spent by the government for their education with interest, without further notice.
