Plan to set up 50 demonstration plots of paddy in Idukki

KATTAPPANA: The Agriculture Department is on a project to set up demonstration plots of paddy fields that follow scientific methods of farming to increase production per acre and to bring fallow land under cultivation.

The demonstration units of one acre each will be provided a subsidy of Rs.2,500 and the Agriculture Department plans to make 50 such units in the district.

Principal Agriculture Officer K.K. Chandran said that as per a Central government project to increase paddy cultivation, Rs.6.84 lakh has been allotted to the district. A major feature of the project will be the setting up of the demonstration units. Under the scheme, financial assistance will be provided to farmers for the purchase of organic fertilizers, pest control measures and efforts to prepare paddy fields against acidic ingredients.
