KATTAPPANA: The Agriculture Department is on a major drive to promote paddy cultivation in fallow lands, with special focus on upland (modan land) cultivation in the district.
Principal Agriculture Officer K.K. Chandran told The Hindu that 400 hectares of fallow land would be brought under cultivation by the next season during May-September.
He said that Rs.112 lakh would be spent in the district under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) for bringing more areas under paddy cultivation.
He said that the major problem faced by paddy farmers was water shortage..
