KOCHI: The Kerala High Court Tuesday directed the Union Government to inform its views regarding the issue of clearance to the Athirapally Hydel project of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB).
The direction was issued by Justice C R Ramachandran Nair on a petition by KSEB company secretary against the steps of the Central Government to revoke environmental clearance to the hydel project.
According to the petitioner, the action by the Centre was arbitrary, not based on reasons and in a fair manner as the environment clearance was given to the project on July 18, 2007 after studies by experts.
The Ministry of Environment and Forest and expert appraisal committee for river valley and Hydro electric project did not raise objections against the clearance granted, the petitioner pointed out.
