MALAPPURAM: The district panchayat will construct a memorial for Malayalam poet Mahakavi Vallathol Narayana Menon at his birth place at Chennara, near Tirur. The civic body has kept aside Rs.7 lakh for the memorial in its budget for 2010-2011, presented here on Monday by vice-president P.K. Kunhu.
�We are ready to give Rs.3 more lakh for it, if needed, said district panchayat president Arimbra Mohammed.
The district panchayat has an estimated inflow of Rs.154.86 crore and an expenditure of Rs.154.74 crore for the coming fiscal. The Rs.15.44 lakh surplus budget has identified projects aimed at the comprehensive development of the district.
The Central funds for rural development programmes, including MGNREGS and PMGSY, will bring an inflow of Rs.111.94 crore to the district panchayat. Contributions from the States Plan funds will be Rs.29.62 core, and Sarva Siksha Abhiyan Rs.1.3 crore.
