Cyberpark gets SEZ approval

Thiruvananthapuram: The Union government has granted formal approval for an IT/ITES Special Economic Zone on 25 acres of the Cyberpark campus coming up at Kozhikode. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Board of Approvals, Ministry of Commerce, held at New Delhi, the IT Department announced here on Thursday. The notification granting approval for the SEZ is expected to follow soon.

Cyberpark Kozhikode is the first foray of Kerala IT into the Malabar region of the State. �The master plan for Cyberpark will be finalised by June end. Work has commenced on the technical design for the first IT building of 4 lakh sq.ft. We hope to have at least 1.5 lakh sq.ft. of this building ready to be occupied by early 2011. Tenders for the construction of this building will be floated this month. The estimated cost is Rs.100 crore, said Cyberpark CEO, Binu Pazhoor.

�Cyberpark will act as a catalyst for the social and infrastructure development of the Malabar region. By 2015, when the project is completely operational, it will generate 70,000 jobs for IT professionals and over a lakh jobs indirectly,� said Ajay Kumar, Principal Secretary, IT.
