KOCHI: It was a return to the roots for over 1,500 students of two schools in Vypeen, as they witnessed an exhibition of traditionally-used seeds of different plants.
In the International Year of Biodiversity and in the backdrop of debates about the pros and cons of genetically-modified crops, it was an apt time to display seed varieties that were (and in many cases still) being cultivated by farmers.
The exhibition was organised at the Infant Jesus UP School, Ochanturuth and at the I.I.V. UP School, Malipuram by Vypeen-based NGO - Thapovanam.
The students thus saw for themselves different varieties of seeds, popular among them being neem, kanikonna and sandalwood.
