ALAPPUZHA: A public convention convened at Cherthala here on Sunday demanded that the State government send an all-party delegation to meet the Prime Minister and other officials concerned to mount political pressure on the Railway Ministry to speed up the proposed joint venture company (JVC) between the ministry and public sector undertaking Autokast to launch a wagon-manufacturing plant.
Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac, inaugurating the convention, said that the adamant attitude of Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee had put the JVC under a cloud of uncertainty. Political pressure and pro-active steps from the State government to implement a package that would make Autokast a viable, profit-making PSU without Central help were the only ways out, he said.
