A chance for young talent in the state

KOCHI: The Indian Premier League has finally come to Kerala. And its going to be a giant leap for both cricket and industry in the state. With Union Minister of State Shashi Tharoor playing chief mentor, Rendezvous Sports has come as a surprise package winning the rights for the Kochi team.

Kochis IPL is sure to spur the industrial prospects of the state. Infrastructure development will be of prime importance. The Kerala Cricket Association has announced that work on the new stadium at Edakochi will be completed by 2011, before the actual schedule.

The Kerala consortium which won the bid for the Kochi team has business magnates Shailendra Gaekwad and Vivek Venugopal leading the team Sources said that some other business groups in the state are also in the consortium though they havent come out into the open.

Kerala cricketer S Sreesanth, who is currently playing for Punjab Kings XI, has made it clear that he will plump for his home team if given a choice. A few other young talents in the state may find a place in the next edition of IPL.

The major issue for the Kochi IPL is the lack of infrastructure, like not having a permanent stadium.

The state government has not been completely supportive of KCA building its own stadium. Though Kochi gets an IPL team, cricket lovers in the state may have to wait a while to see the team playing an IPL match on home ground
