KOZHIKODE: The district administration on Wednesday announced new regulations for sale of firecrackers in Kozhikode city. It convened a meeting of political parties, trade unions, firecracker dealers and manufacturers and citizens at the Collectorate Conference Hall to hear their views on the new regulations.
The new regulations will allow wholesale and retail firecracker dealers who comply with the stipulations of the Central explosives authority regarding public safety to open shops in the city. Simultaneously, the district administration has stopped the sale of firecrackers at the Swapna Nagari exhibition grounds following a report by the Fire and Rescue Services that it should not be held responsible for any accident there.
District Collector P.B. Salim said the decision to allow firecracker sales was made in view of the fact that hundreds of people earned a livelihood from this trade.
