Thiruvananthapuram: The police have arrested one of the share-holders of a prominent diagnostic services centre in the city in connection with the kidnapping and gang rape of a minor girl belonging to a scheduled caste community.
They said the accused, Ajith, 40, will be produced before the court on Wednesday. Circle Inspector V. Suresh Kumar said the victim was a standard X student. Her mother sold rice gruel for a living in front of the Medical College Hospital.
On March 16, the woman reported to the police that her daughter had not come back from school. She subsequently informed the police that her daughter arrived home the next morning. The police said the case of abduction and gang rape came to light when Mr. Suresh Kumar and Sub-Inspector K. S. Prakash questioned the girl in the presence of women police personnel and counsellors on March 19.
