KOCHI: Cooperation Minister G. Sudhakaran has called for better professionalism in all sectors.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the 11 {+t} {+h} anniversary of the Thrikkakara grama panchayat cooperative hospital and the foundation stone laying ceremony for an annexe building of the hospital, he said that while striking work for a just cause is welcome, it was rather inhuman of the doctors to strike work frequently.
While professional education is important, social concerns need to be addressed too. The cooperative sector has achieved a landmark in the education sector by providing 16,000 seats out of the total 40,000 professional seats in the State. Compared to the seats available for professional education in the neighbouring state of Karnataka, which is about 1.75 lakh seats, the State is much too behind but it has certainly improved the position from what it was about three years ago, said the Minister.
The Minister also announced formally that the hospital would function as the Community Health Centre of the Cooperative Medical College, Kalamassery. Five house surgeons would be available at the Centre and arrangements would also be made to have house surgeons during night, he added.
