KANNUR: Government officials visited the 70-year-old house of the late legendary Communist leader A.K. Gopalan at Peralassery here on Tuesday following a move for its demolition and the protest it drew from local Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers.
The team of officials led by Additional District Magistrate P.K. Sudheer Babu visited the house located at Vadakkumbad at Peralassery under the instruction of the State government following the protests by the CPI(M) workers against the move to demolish it by its present owner and nephew of the late leader.
The work to demolish the two-storied house located in a 26.75-cent plot was suspended on Monday following the party workers protest. The ADM and other officials who spoke to Mr. Sadashivan during their visit were assured by the latter that the suspended work to demolish the building would not be resumed.
