THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Deserted roads and downed shutters said it all. The dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) in protest against the petroleum product price hike brought life in the street to a halt for a major part of Saturday.
One could count the vehicles plying on most roads and except for drug stores not too many shops were open at any point of time during the day. With public carriages staying off the road, most government offices and private establishments had a virtual holiday.
