THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The supply of drinking water to parts of the city, including Shanghumughom, the airport and Veli, was disrupted for a few hours on Tuesday following a leak in a 150 mm cast iron pipeline near Pettah. Normal supply in the line was restored by 2 p.m. Officials of the Kerala Water Authority said the leak was initially thought to be in a 450 mm concrete line originating from the reservoir at the Observatory Hill. Accordingly, water supply in that line was cut off by operating an underground valve at Pettah.
However, when KWA officials dug down to the pipe it was found that the leak was in the smaller line laid parallel to the concrete line. Had the leak been in the bigger line, restoration of water supply would have taken many hours more.
