KOCHI: The land acquisition for the three railway overbridges in the city will begin shortly and the State government has allotted Rs. 135 crore for the projects, Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has said.
The overbridges have been proposed at Atlantis, Ponnurunni and Pachalam. The Kerala Roads and Bridges Development Corporation (KRBDC) will initiate the land acquisition works using the Rs. 100 crore allotted by the government.
The tender works of the bridge at Ponnurunni will begin shortly. With development projects worth Rs. 50,000 crore being implemented in the city, infrastructure development facilities including development and widening of roads will have to be undertaken, Mr. Isaac told media persons.
The government will deposit Rs 156 crore with the Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC), which is implementing the Kochi Metro Railway project, for restructuring the North overbridge. The restructuring is being undertaken as part of the preparatory works for the Kochi metro. Widening of at least 16 roads has to be undertaken in the city.
