Ernakulam-New Delhi Duronto Express flagged off

KOCHI: Admitting that the Centre is turning its back on the infrastructure of development of Railways in Kerala, Union Minister of State for Railways E Ahmed said the fund allotted for the doubling of tracks in Kerala were not being spent in the state.

Flagging off the Ernakulam - New Delhi Duronto Express at Ernakulam Junction station on Sunday Ahmed said that the government would take measures to complete the works in time.

The Railway Board meeting to be held on Wednesday will discuss the matters regarding the Kanjikkode railway coach factory, he said.

Other promises from Ahmed are as follows

* The Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train will start service in Kerala from June.

* The works of sixth track at the Ernakulam Junction station will be completed in three months.

* The train starting from Kochi at 11.30 p.m. every Tuesday will reach New Delhi at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday, while the train leaving New Delhi at 7.30 p.m. every Saturday will arrive in Kochi at 3.30 p.m. on Monday.

* The non-stop train from Kochi to New Delhi will have 17 coaches in all. It comprises one first A/C, one two tier A/C, four sleeper A/C, eight sleeper class coaches, a pantry car and two guardcum- general compartments.

While the sleeper class coaches have 80 seats each, the first A/C, two tier A/C and three tier A/C coaches will have 24, 54 and 72 seats respectively. According to the railway officials the fare will be same as that of the Rajdhani Express
