Thrissur: More than 100 people attended a one-day yoga workshop organised by the District Yoga Association here on Sunday. The programme was aimed at imparting the fundamental principles of yoga to people for the holistic development of their life, said P. Balakrishnan, joint secretary of the association.
Writer K. Aravindakshan delivered a lecture on Yoga and Gandhian philosophy.
According to experts, increasing pollution, stress at workplace, unbalanced food habits and lack of exercise are the main reasons that lead to lifestyle diseases like diabetes and hypertension. More than 85 per cent of the people who undergo our yoga training are suffering from either diabetes or hypertension or both. Most of them belong to the age group of 35-50. With proper food control and regular yoga training there has been notable progress in their condition. Yoga relaxation methods are very effective in relieving stress, said Mr. Balakrishnan. The association will start yoga therapy sessions from March 15.
